PADANG BESAR: Two Padang Besar Customs enforcement personnel were seriously hurt while another suffered minor injuries after their vehicle was rammed twice by a car driven by a tout at Km24 of Jalan Titi Tinggi-Padang Besar, this morning.
Perlis Customs director Kamaruddin Jaafar said the Proton Perdana car driven by the tout rammed the Honda Odyssey MPV carrying the three Customs personnel from behind at 4.15am.
“The impact caused Mohd Safawi Rosdi, 27, who was sitting in the back to be thrown out, while Mat Zohir Mohd Saad, 47, who was sitting in the front passenger seat suffered serious head injuries. Both are in critical condition.
“The driver of the vehicle, Abdullah Ayob, 36, sustained injuries on his cheeks and chest,” he said when met at Hospital Tuanku Fauziah Kangar.
Kamarudin said the Customs team was trailing three Thai pickup trucks suspected of smuggling cigarettes and alcohol heading towards Kangar from Padang Besar, while another team trailed from a distance.
Meanwhile, Padang Besar district police chief Supt Rizani Che Ismail confirmed the incident and said the case was being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
