2 men arrested with 5 lakh fake currency

NAGPUR: In a major trap, Nagpur ATS unit nabbed two people who had migrated from Bangladesh to India to distribute fake notes. The two were arrested from Central Railway Station with 5 lakh in fake currency.

The alleged accused has been identified as Abdul Gaffar Shaikh Musa, 40, and Abdul Sattar Shaikh Musa, 27, both from Jivathi village in Chandrapur district.

Just a month ago, on October 4, city ATS unit had arrested Malda resident Anwarul Ali Hussain from Central Railway station and seized 9.5 lakh in currency notes from him. He was kept in police custody till October 13. Malda, which is close to the Bangladesh border, is learnt to be a major conduit place for fake currency.

After Hussain’s arrest, ATS team was keeping track of his network and teams involved in supplying fake notes in the district. Sources informed that many people from border areas of Bangladesh had used different routes to reach India and contacted dealers of fake currency in various cities.

After Hussain’s arrest, ATS team headed by inspector VD Mishra and Vijay Akot, and their staffers API Sanjay Naik and Amar Dhandar, PSI Prashant Bhoyar were investigating areas and people involved in supplying fake notes.

While tracking down the details, the ATS team came to know about two people who had collected fake notes in exchange for real money from Simelgaon and were supplying them in the district. ATS team set a trap at the railway station found two men moving in suspicious condition carrying a heavy bag. The ATS team rounded them up and found 5 lakh in fake currency from the bag.

Both the accused will be produced before the court on Thursday. Sources said that fake currency smuggling has increased rapidly in recent times. Police have seized the cell phones of the accused and are tracing their network in other cities.
