200 overseas Pakistanis seeking refunds from FBR

ISLAMABAD: At least 200 overseas Pakistanis have demanded refunds from Federal Board of Revenue for extra taxes submitted during assets declaration through Amnesty Scheme 2018 while a summary has been put up to the FBR chairman in this regard, it is learnt here.

Official sources told Customs Today that during the government-announced Amnesty Scheme 2018, around 200 foreign-based Pakistanis submitted double taxes in order to declare their assets by taking advantage of the scheme.

As per sources, these assets holders during initial stage tried to pay taxes in Pakistani currency and submitted the declaration form; however, they were told the taxes could not be submitted through Pakistani currency while concessional taxes are not acceptable while submitting through foreign-currency account in Pakistan, sources confirmed.

Sources added that with this uncertain situation these 200 foreign-based Pakistanis paid taxes in National Bank Branch in New York in form of dollars before the due date of Amnesty Scheme 2018 where they get computerized receipt and able to submit the declaration form.

Sources also told that now these 200 Pakistanis are demanding their refunds of extra taxes submitted where the board has prepared a summary and put up to chairman FBR for further approval and perusal.
