DETROIT: The 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Z71 4WD Crew Cab is look like mobile living room.
With its leather interior and ample space, it is a smooth-riding truck, making trips back and forth across Michigan on Interstate 96; for example, seem like less of a chore.
But the easy cruising ride of such a large truck comes at a price: This particular Silverado, seen in the video above, is rated at 15 miles per gallon in the city and 21 mpg on the highway.
That fuel economy comes from Chevrolet’s 5.3 L V-8 Ecotec3 engines, which in this case was mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The engine is powerful and eager, and you can feel it when you mash the gas pedal. On the 4WD Silverado 1500, it gets 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque, and can trailer 9,200 lbs.
A variety of technological features are available, ranging from the now-common backup camera to the still relatively new lane-departure and collision-alert systems.
With those options and others, this particular Silverado is priced at $57,405.
The Silverado was the second-best selling vehicle in the U.S. in 2014, behind only the Ford F-150. It remains a signature vehicle for General Motors in the fiercely competitive light truck segment.
Last year, sales of the top three trucks which were also the three top-selling vehicles in the U.S. – included a 1.3 percent dip for Ford’s F-Series trucks to 753,851 units sold, while Silverado sales grew 10.3 percent to 529,755 units and sales of Ram trucks grew 23.6 percent to 439,789 units.
