2015 Mitsubishi Triton gets five-star rating in ANCAP safety test

PERTH: The Triton’s new 5-Star rating will be a welcome award for Mitsubishi, opening the door to fleet sales that have been off-limits to the current 4-Star range.

After spruiking its five-star potential in marketing material in New Zealand, the 2015 Mitsubishi Triton has attained a five-star rating in the latest round of ANCAP testing. However, both the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer (three-cylinder petrol variants) and MINI Cooper (three-door variants) have failed to reach five stars, only scoring four stars due to poor performance in the frontal offset crash test.

It wasn’t all bad news for BMW, though, with the i3 scoring five stars along with the Land Rover Discovery Sport, Renault Captur and Tesla Model S.

“In terms of safety, LCVs continue to lag passenger vehicles with 57% of LCVs sold holding the maximum 5 star ANCAP safety rating. In comparison, 90% of new passenger vehicles sold are 5 star rated,” said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, Nicholas Clarke.

“This 5 star rating for the high-selling Triton is a great achievement as this will translate to increased safety on worksites and on our roads,” said Clarke.
