23 prohibited edibles being sold in markets

ISLAMABAD: The Standing Committee of National Assembly on Science & Technology, in a meeting under the chairmanship of Ch Tariq Bashir Cheema, has raised the issue of sale and purchase of haram edibles in markets of the capital as there is no law in place to check the sale and purchase of such products.

The committee took up the issue on the attention notice moved by Shahida Akhter Ali MNA and others for the sale and purchase of prohibited edible items in the country. Ministry of Science and Technology provided complete list of 23 prohibited items, which are being sold in the markets.

These products are Chicken Tonight, Bubblicios, Chupa Bubble, Pascual Yogikids, Skittle Fruit jar, Skittle Fruit 55 g, Skittle Fruit 15p, Picnic Chicken, Slima soup, Knorr Chicken Soup, Cup a soup, Tulip Chicken, Rice Chicken Broccoli, Pasta Chicken Broccoli, Pasta Creamy Chicken, Heinz Dinner Chicken, Fruit Cocktails, Yupi Footballs, Gummi Pizza, Strawberry Leaf, Jell-O and Pop Trats and these items were imported from Holland, UK, Spain, France, Denmark, USA, England, and Indonesia.

The officials from ministry told the committee that Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA), Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR), Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC), Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) effectively provide services with regard to setting of standards, accreditation of testing labs and further testing support to different federal and provincial regulatory authorities.
