DUBLIN: A man has appeared in court in Wexford in connection with the seizure of cigarettes at Rosslare Europort.
23,000 cigarettes were found in a people carrier which had travelled on the ferry from France.
The vehicle was stopped and searched, and with the assistance of detector dog Alfie the cigarettes were found concealed in the floor of the vehicle.
The car was seized and the driver, a Lithuanian man, appeared before Gorey District Court.
He was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison and is to appear in Wexford District Court next Tuesday.
The cigarettes are worth around €12,000 and represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of €9,500.
