$25m Tarbela Switchyard up-gradation contract awarded to Chinese firms

LAHORE: Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) has awarded a $25 million Tarbela Switchyard up-gradation contract to the Chinese consortium.

Wapda signed the contract with Etern-CCCE-Hei, a consortium of three Chinese Companies, for up-gradation of the existing Switchyard of Tarbela Hydel Power Station for dispersal of electricity from Tarbela Hydel Power station after the completion of the 1,410 MW – Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower project. As per the contract, the project will be completed by the end of May 2017.

Wapda Chairman Zafar Mahmood, Member (Water) Muhammad Shoaib Iqbal, Member (Power) Badrul-Munir Murtiza, Member (Finance) Anwarul-Haq, Tarbela Dam Project General Manager Iqbal Masood Siddiqui and other senior officers of the authority were also present on the occasion. Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project Director Sohail Khan and the Consortium’s chief representative Cao Yutao signed the contract on behalf of their organisations.

Speaking on the occasion, the Wapda Chairman urged the consortium to complete the up-gradation of Tarbela Switchyard within the stipulated time. The consortium’s chief representative assured Wapda of meeting all the timelines of the project in accordance with the technical specifications and laid down standards.
