26 freight, 106 passenger trains are functional: NA told

ISLAMABAD: The government is committed to upgrade Railways as currently 26 freight and 106 passenger trains are functional.

This was revealed by Parliamentary Secretary for Railways Deewan Ashiq Hussian Bukhari on Thursday, while apprising the National Assembly during the question-answer session.

Replying to a question, he said that maximum permissible speed of express trains on some sections of ML-1 (Karachi to Peshawar via Lahore) , running with Chinese coaches is 120kmh. He said maximum permissible speed of freight trains running with bogie stock (08 wheeler wagons) is 80kmh. He informed the MNAs that after up-gradation of the track infrastructure of ML-1 in phases, speed would be raised to 160 KMH for the passenger train.
