Customs Court grants bail to Rs 500 million tax evader

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has accepted the bail plea of accused Amjad Amin who is allegedly involved in tax evasion of Rs 500 million and ordered his release.

The Federal Customs Court has accepted bail of Amjad Amin against the cash guarantee of Rs 500,000. Amjad Amin was arrested by Customs authorities on his alleged involvement in tax evasion and mis-declaration. He was in jail for judicial trial.

Accused Amjad Amin had been importing containers from China from quite some time. After passage of a considerable period, customs authorities received credible information that the accused is involved in mis-declaration of goods.

According to Customs investigation, the accused was not declaring the actual amount of the imported goods. When customs authorities scrutinized his documents, they allegedly found a fraud of Rs 500 million in form of tax and duty evasion.

But now the Customs Court has accepted his bail and has ordered his release from jail.
