2kg cocaine smuggling case: Guyanese unable to pay $150 000 fine, 3 year jailed as alternative

GEORGE TOWN: A Guyanese man will be spending three years at Dodds Prison after he was unable to pay a $150 000 fine.

According to police, 22-year-old Alistair Caldie Reid arrived by air on from Georgetown, Guyana.  He was interviewed by police and referred to Customs for a search which revealed two kilogrammes of cocaine drug strapped to his thighs.  He was charged with possession of cocaine, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation of cocaine.

Reid appeared at the District “B” Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to the offences.  He was fined for importation and convicted, reprimanded and discharged on the remaining charges.
