2m Punjab youth to be imparted skill training

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Mines and Minerals Chaudhry Sher Ali Khan has said that two million youth will be imparted skill development training to enable them to get better job opportunities in local as well as international market under Punjab Growth Strategy 2018.

He stated this while presiding over a meeting to review skill training programme in Mining Sector of the Department here on Tuesday.

“Punjab Mines and Mineral Department will provide skill development training to more than 4780 youth in the mining sector which will help prepare skilled manpower and improve economy by discovery of new minerals,” he said.Ch Sher Ali Khan directed the officers concerned to extend this training facility to all districts of the province so that maximum people could get benefit from the programme.

He apprised the meeting that according to the vision of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, these training courses would not only help upgrade the traditional mining methods, increase job opportunities but also enhance capacity building of mining department for new explorations.

Earlier, briefing the meeting, Chief Inspector of Mines Engineer Siddique Chaudhry said that according to current ADP, as many as 2000 youth would be imparted latest skill development training in eight sectors of mining including underground mining, surface mining, health and safety management, geographic information system, drilling and sampling, mines electrician and machinery operator, handling storage and use of explosives through Punjab Schools of Mine in Mianwali, Khushab, Chakwal and other places.

“The under training youth will also be provided Rs 3000 stipend per month during the six months training programme,” he said.

Director Mines Welfare Ch Riaz informed the meeting that around 2780 youth would be provided skill training according to routine training courses of the department comprising two weeks to two months duration in different categories as well.
