BERLIN: The ambulance was allegedly seized in Birmingham before being loaded with drugs and smuggled into the country.
Three Dutch men arrested after a multimillion-pound haul of cocaine and heroin was allegedly smuggled into Britain in an ambulance seized near Birmingham have pleaded not guilty.
Leonardus Bijlsma, Dennis Vogelaar and Richard Engelsbel denied a joint charge of conspiracy to smuggle when they appeared at Birmingham Crown Court.
The men, of addresses in or near Amsterdam, entered their pleas through an interpreter and were remanded in custody to face trial on November 16.
Bijlsma, 55, Vogelaar, 28, and Engelsbel, 51, are alleged to have conspired together with Olof Schoon and others to import drugs over a 16-month period between April 2014 and June this year.
Schoon, 38, from Hoofddorp, near Amsterdam, was not present at today’s hearing and is scheduled to enter a plea on November 6.
