ISLAMABAD: The Textile Ministry has called another meeting on Monday to have consultation with stakeholders vis-à-vis textile policy.
According to APTMA official,s the Ministry would present main points of their drafted policy to the members and members would have a chance to present their point of view on any given matter. The stakeholders are expected to discuss various issues relating to energy, product diversification, encouraging investment, trainings and improved factory floor management.
According to sources, day to day problems faced by the industry, would be presented with a request to address them in the policy. Matters related to continuous power supply to the industry throughout the country would also be discussed. Along with priority energy supply, stakeholders are also expecting tax-free import of machinery and other equipment, establishment of textile parks to encourage value-addition, creation of an investment support fund and duty drawbacks of up to 3pc on incremental export basis and value-addition in new policy. Textiles Policy 2014-19 was originally due in September. The Ministry of Textile sent the draft to Economic Coordination Committee on 22 July. After a delay of almost three months it was presented in ECC on 30 October last year. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar formed a committee to review the disagreement among different ministries over the policy.
