ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), acting on the special directives of Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, took stern action against the human traffickers and registered 368 cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last three years, besides launching a ‘Red Book’ to curb these illegal activities.
According to data issued by the Interior Division, there were 126 travel agencies and 208 travel agents were involved in the human trafficking during the corresponding period, while 176 travel agents were arrested, 157 cases were registered and 51 were convicted during the last three years.
Meanwhile, the FIA took several steps to improve its overall performance and developed a strategic framework on human trafficking and migrant smuggling. The immigration-related laws of FIA are being extended to Torkham border crossing point in order to establish the writ of the agency to curb illegal trafficking and human smuggling.
