33-year-old Phoenix woman arrested after failed drug smuggling attempt at Port of Lukeville

TUCSON ARIZ:  A 33-year-old Phoenix woman was arrested after a failed drug smuggling attempt at the Port of Lukeville, CBP officer told.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred Claudia Cortez, for a secondary inspection of her Infiniti sedan, with the assistance from a CBP narcotics detection canine. After the dog alerted to the presence of drugs, officers removed 11 packages of methamphetamine and an additional package of heroin inside the gas tank. There was nearly 12 pounds of meth with a value of nearly $35,000 and more than a pound and a half worth of heroin, worth nearly $22,000.
