3,589 complaints disposed off, 70 held, Rs1.432b recovered: NAB chief lauds Karachi zone’s performance

KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman has reviewed performance of the Bureau’s Karachi zone said that NAB in the metropolis is dealing with important cases and playing a prominent role in contributing towards the overall performance of the department.

NAB Karachi Director General Sirajul Naeem along with his team briefed the NAB chairman about the current status of Steel Mills, Isaf and the National Bank of Pakistan cases as investigations in these cases were underway in NAB Karachi.

The NAB Karachi disposed off 3,589 complaints, 327 complaint verifications (CVs), 71 inquiries and finished 33 investigations, arrested 70 people and recovered Rs1.432 billion through VR, PB and indirect recoveries during 2014.

The chairman was informed that NAB Karachi is currently investigating 311 cases, in which 231 cases are at the inquiry stage and 80 cases were under investigation.He was told that 25 people have been arrested in the first quarter of 2015 and recoveries made so far during the first quarter of 2015 were 299.314 million in addition to the recovery of 71.38 acres land valued at Rs360 million through voluntary return (VR) due to the NAB Karachi efforts.

The DG, NAB Karachi, also highlighted the strengths and weakness of NAB Karachi regional bureau. He that in 10 cases of Pakistan Steel Mills transferred from the FIA to NAB, eight supplementary references have been filed. Inquiries of five cases of Pakistan Steel Mills had been transferred from FIA to NAB.
