$35b agri imports: Dar asks TDAP to grab Pak share in $16b exports to Russia

ISLAMABAD: Russia has been importing food items worth $35 billion particularly from Europe, and current EU curbs on imports is creating a space of $16 billion which should be captured and exploited through the exports of Pakistan products.

“Pakistan want definitely needs a handsome share in this available market”, declared Finance Minister Ishaq Dar while chairing a meeting here.

Mr Dar directed the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) to chalk out comprehensive plan to export agricultural products to Russia.

On the occasion, the finance minister was briefed on roadmap to enhance export volume of agricultural products. He was tald that measures had been initiated to have export destinations in Russia for Pakistani food products.

Dar said that increase in exports to Russia would help to raise overall exports besides lowering the current account deficit.

The finance minister called upon prospective exporters to take advantage of the ban imposed by Russian on agricultural imports from European countries.

The finance minster stressed that Pakistan had a sturdy agriculture sector which contributes 21pc to the GDP, which could further be enhanced through provision of incentives to this sector.
