ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is going to hand over the operations of 38 water filtration plants to the Pakistan Water Research Council (PWRC).
According to the media reports, a strategy was being devised to make all the filtration plants operational round the year and officials of the PWRC and the CDA were holding talks reach a final agreement. The sources said that of the 38 filtration plants, 26 were non-functional whereas polluted water was being provided at the rest of the plants. The source said that underground tanks of the filtration plants have not been cleaned for years.
Earlier, the CDA had outsourced the filtration plants to private contractors for provision of clean drinking water to the citizens. The source said that the contractors only minted money from the civic agency and maintenance, cleanliness and provision of clean drinking water remained their least priority.
