NEW YORK: One of five airline employees charged in a sting operation with trying to smuggle $400,000 in cash through Boston’s Logan Airport has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Federal prosecutors said 26-year-old Rupert Crossley of Lynn, a former JetBlue Airways ground worker, also was sentenced Wednesday to a year of supervised released and ordered to forfeit $4,000. He pleaded guilty last October to money laundering conspiracy, conspiracy to defraud the government, and illegally entering an airport area with intent to commit a felony.
Prosecutors said a co-defendant, Anthony Trotman of Boston, also pleaded guilty to similar charges in October. He is being sentenced Jan. 29.
Prosecutors said last year the workers used their security credentials to smuggle what they believed was drug trafficking money. Four worked for JetBlue and one for Delta Air Lines.
