4,000mmcfd gas against 6,000mmcfd demand: Trader leader terms LNG import great achievement

ISLAMABAD: Former president of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Dr Shahid Rasheed Butt, has said that the liquefied natural gas (LNG) is the fastest and cheapest way to get energy and its import will be a great achievement of the current government.

He said that the import of LNG will provide relief to the masses. He further said that Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and private sector are rewriting energy history of Pakistan which is highly commendable.

Shahid said that one terminal is insufficient to cater for the country’s need therefore government and private sector should immediately start establishing more LNG terminals.

Pakistan produces around 4,000 mmcfd of gas against a demand of over 6,000 mmcfd. The LNG project is expected to add around 10% to current supplies.
