ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has launched Azadi Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign-2015, in which more than 450,000 plants would be planted in the federal capital.
CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal, after inaugurating the campaign, said that the authority has always taken consolidated steps to maintain and improve the green character of Islamabad. He planted sapling of alestonea in the launching ceremony at Park Enclave Housing Scheme, Park Road.
CDA Environment Member Syed Mustafain Kazmi, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industries President, representatives of the civil society and NGOs, officers and officials of different government and non-government organisations, a large number of students and people from other walks of life also participated in the campaign and planted saplings of different plants.
The member environment briefed the chairman CDA the federal government has given CDA a target to plant 300,000 trees during the Monsoon Tree Plantation Drive-2015, however, CDA in collaboration with different NGOs, educational institutes and other organisations would plant 450,000 plants which include alestonia, silver oak, legustronea, argun and gaab etc in the city.
He briefed that 225,000 plants would be planted in the rural areas of Islamabad while 75,000 plants would be planted in green areas, roadsides and different parks. He informed that 5,000 saplings of different species have been planted on the first day of the campaign and 25,000 more plants would be planted at the Park Enclave housing scheme.
