BENGALURU: Early birds have made the most of the 5% rebate on property tax. Eight lakh of the city’s 16.3 lakh property owners paid tax by May 30, the last day to avail the discount.
BBMP netted an amount of Rs 1,085 crore during April and May, Rs 250 crore more than last year’s collection.
Venkatachalapathy M, deputy commissioner (revenue), BBMP, said they had set a target of Rs 1,200 crore for the first two months; the yearly target is Rs 2,900 crore. “It’s a good start and we are hoping to recover the remaining amount in the coming months,” he added. Venkatachalapathy said taxpayers will have to pay 2% penalty per month beginning June.
