ISLAMABAD: The National Transmission & Despatch Company (NTDC) Limited was behind the third massive power breakdown in one month, alleged the sources in Ministry of Water and Power.

The power supply for Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northern Areas was suspended for 6 hours on Thursday. According to NTDC, 500 and 220 KV lines tripped resulting in collapse of north zone. Last month, two similar incidents occurred which threw most of the country into darkness.

The ministry’s officials said that more than half of the country was deprived of power supply third time in less than a month just because of inefficiency of NTDC. They said that the ministry was for providing policy guidelines, while NTDC was responsible for the operations. d NTDC would submit a report for the incident but his department has not so far called for any inquiry, they added.

The Ministry of Water and Power held Guddu power plant management responsible for the massive power breakdown on December 12, last year and suspended CEO Guddu GENCO Rukhsar Qureshi, Maula Buksh Resident Engineer and Muhammad Momin Senior Shift Engineer over negligence and lack of coordination.

After the suspension, the ministry has yet to fix the responsibility of two incidents of massive power breakdowns, which has occurred since December 12 last year.

NTDC Spokesman Sajjad Ahmed has blamed NPCC for the incident and said that the power breakdown occurred due to heavy fog.
