52% civil work of Orange Line Metro Train completed

LAHORE: Orange Line Metro Train will provide an economic, safe and latest mode of transportation to common citizens besides conferring a sense of self respect upon them.

Khawaja Ahmad Hassan, Chairman of the Steering Committee for Lahore Orange Line Metro Train Project, observed this while chairing the weekly progress review meeting here Thursday. This project is not meant only for the people of Lahore or Punjab, it has a national significance as it will set precedent for commencing more such projects in other cities of the country, he added. Metro Train system is successfully functioning in 153 cities of the world and start of its operation in Lahore will include the provincial metropolis in the list of international cities, he maintained.

Khawaja Ahmad Hassan urged WASA, PTCL and other departments for safeguarding their manholes and ensuring placemen of covers on them for avoiding fatal incidents. He called upon the utility services departments for constituting mobile teams and directed them to remain present on the spot during the execution of civil works for ensuring uninterrupted supply of these services. He asked for immediate provision of electricity connection for WASA’s lift stations at Lake Road near the PIA Planetarium as well at Lakshmi Chowk. He asked the Lahore Waste Management Company for formulating its operational plan for cleanliness of trains track and stations after start of its operation. He asked the project director concerned for making special arrangements for removal of debris from Multan Road from Choburji to Ali Town for facilitating smooth flow of traffic at this stretch.

NESPAK General Manager Slaman Hafeez informed the meeting that about 52 percent civil work of the project has so far been completed. He told that so far 64 per cent civil work of the package one from Dera Gujjaran, G.T.Road to Chuburji has been completed. Progress of work on package two from Choburji to Ali Town is 44 per cent, on Depot near Dera Gujran is 50 per cent while on Stabling Yard near Ali Town it is 49 per cent.
