ISLAMABAD: Despite Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s previous directives to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources for not increasing gas tariffs, the oil and gas regulatory authority (Ogra) on advice of the ministry is going to hike tariffs by 64 per cent from April 1 to raise Rs67 billion as Sui Southern and Sui Northern are reportedly on the verge of collapse.
Sources said that the gas tariff would be increased from 15 to 64 per cent after getting green signal from the Prime Minister Secretariat. They said that the gas tariff for industrial would be hiked by 53 per cent, commercial sector by 18 per cent, and for fertilizers sector by 64 per cent. However, for CNG sector the gas tariff is likely to be increased by 25 per cent and for the power plants by 30 per cent. For domestic sector, the consumers who fall in the third slab will face the increase in gas tariff by 15 per cent.
The gas tariff for commercial price will likely to be increased by Rs114 per mmbtu to Rs750 per mmbtu; from Rs262 per mmbtu to Rs750 per mmbtu for industrial sector; from Rs94 per mmbtu to Rs750 per mmbtu for CNG sector; from Rs76 per mmbtu to Rs200 per mmbtu for fertilizer sector; from Rs177 per mmbtu to Rs750 per mmbtu for captive power plants and for K- Electric, public sector power plants and IPPs, the gas tariff will likely to surge by Rs12 to Rs500 per mmbtu.
