ISLAMABAD: Weekly inflation measured through the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) has witnessed a decline of 0.24 per cent for combined income group for the week ended April 16.
According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), SPI monitors prices of 53 items based on the survey of markets in 17 cities. The impact of prices on various income groups also witnessed variations during the week under review.
For the lowest income group earning up to Rs8,000, the SPI decreased by 0.39pc over the previous week, while inflation for the top income group (Rs35,000 and above) was also down by 2.31pc.
As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review declined by 1.93pc. The items which recorded increase in their average prices included chicken, match box, gur, kerosene, bananas, sugar, mash (pulse), lawn (printed), eggs, beef, red chilly and mutton.
