ISLAMABAD: Despite suggestions from the cellular operators to extend the deadline, the federal government is going to block the SIMs not verified through the Biometric Verification System (BVS) after February 26.
The Ministry of Information Technology has also proposed to extend the deadline of the first phase by two weeks, however the final decision will be taken by Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan. So far 54 million out of 103 million SIMs have been verified across the country.
Sources said that the interior ministry has directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and cellular companies to complete the process in two phases till April 13, 2015 as seven million disowned SIMs have already been blocked through BVS process.
