$5681.68m loan agreements singed: 19 out of 32 entities okayed for privatisation are profit making

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Muhammad Balighur Rehman, during question hour, has informed the Senate that 19 out of 32 public sector entities, which would be privatized, are profit-making institutions.

He said that out of the approved privatization programme certain public sector entities had already been partial privatised in transparent manner.

Balighur Rehman told the House that there were 127 international non-governmental organisations which were presently working in the country receiving foreign contributions. He said only 19 international NGOs had been registered and the cases of remaining were under process.

Responding to a question, he said that loan agreements of $5681.68 million had been signed with multilateral organisations from June 5, 2013, to December 31, 2014. Out of total committed amount, $2821.79 million were disbursed during the said period. He said on September 4, 2013, the IMF approved financing arrangements under Extended Fund Facility, a three year programme for $6.64 billion. So far Pakistan has received $3.25 billion under the programme and remaining amount will be evenly disbursed after quarterly reviews.
