LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has formed a committee for shifting of General Bus Stand Badami Bagh to Shahdara and restoration of cricket ground, gymnasium and wrestling arena besides other sports facilities in Iqbal Park Lahore.
Secretary Transport Punjab, Secretary Sports Punjab and Secretary Industry will be members of this committee, which will submit final recommendations to the Chief Minister.
This was disclosed by PML-N leader Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan while presiding over a meeting to review restoration of playgrounds affected due to Azadi Flyover and other development projects at Iqbal Park (Minto Park) Lahore.
Secretary Sports, Tourism & Youth Affairs Punjab Muhammad Khan Khitchi, Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar, Director General PHA Mian Shakil Ahmed, General Manager (TEVTA) Akhtar Bharwana, Deputy Secretary Transport Sohail Khawaja and concerned officers of City District Government Lahore attended the meeting.
Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan said that the development of playgrounds and construction of infrastructure for providing modern sports facilities to the people of walled city and surrounding areas at Iqbal Park Lahore is of great importance. He said that toatal 590 kanal land would be retrieved.
Mashhood appreciated that the General Bus Terminal Badami Bagh consisting of 282 kanal land and auto workshop adjacent to it are being shifted. He said that Punjab government has decided to set up new general bus terminal at 303 kanal land at Shahdara Mor. He said that besides 282 kanal land of old bus terminal, 56 kanal land owned by Punjab Sports Board after shifting of vegetable market Lahore to alternate place and 252 kanal land retrieved in the second phase will be given to Sports Board Punjab so that modern facilities of international standard of various sports could be provided to the people.
The meeting decided that one technical institute out of three technical institutions own by TEVTA situated other site of Ravi Road will be shifted to Faisalabad while the remaining two institutions continue to work there whereas besides constructing Vehicle Examination & Certification Centre, Chand Memorial Cricket Ground comprising 36 kanal will be equipped with modern facilities.
