KARACHI: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling on Monday remanded a suspect to the custody of the Pakistan Customs for investigation in a case pertaining to the smuggling of 60 tola gold into the country.
Pakistan Customs officer produced the alleged smuggler, Syed Asif Abbas Zaidi, before Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi, requesting to hand him over to the Customs authorities for interrogation. The court granted a 10-day physical remand of the suspect.
According to official sources, 60 tola gold worth over Rs 2.6 million was recovered from the suspect at the Jinnah International Airport on the morning of September 7.
The accused was arrested for carrying the gold without declaring it and an FIR was registered against him under the customs laws.
