JAIPUR: A 700-years-old Holy Quran pilfered in Rajasthan, India. The Holy Quran was possessed by a Hindu possessor.
According to 55-year-old Jaidev Prasad Sharma, the stolen Quran was a souvenir given to him by a friend back in 2011.
On Tuesday at evening, a man who he seldom dealt in called at him accompanied with another man asked to view that copy of Quran. While Mr Sharma was briefly diverted by a phone call, the guest allegedly pulled a gun on him. The two visitors then swiped the Quran and rode away on a motorcycle.
Despair at having lost a precious piece of heritage, Jaidev expressed he never thought to sell the book and in spite of being a Hindu he had revered it. He said he dreamt of passing it on to his daughter.
“The Quran had a specialty”, Mr Sharma said, “It had calligraphy in gold and also used sapphire.” He revealed that he had hoped to pass on the heirloom to his daughter.
After registering a case against this theft, the police said the copy of manuscript Quran might have been stolen because of its historic worth and valuable stones.
