BRENT: Most teenagers, 84 percent of them, get health information from the Internet, according to a new survey.
Among all types of media, the Internet is the primary source of health information for adolescents, surpassing books, television, radio, newspapers and magazines, the study found.
Parents remain the main source of health information. When asked about which sources they get “a lot” of health information from, more than half of the teens surveyed (55 percent) said their parents, while 32 percent said health classes at school, and 29 percent said medical providers.
“It shows that teenagers can be independent and empowered actors in taking care of their own health,” Vicky Rideout, a media and health researcher who designed the survey, told the New York Times.
