DHAKA: A lighter vessel, shipping 900 tonnes of coal, has sunk in Chittagong port’s Sandwip Channel after hitting a buoy.
All 12 crew on board ‘MV Master Sohag’ were rescued by nearby ships after Friday’s accident.
Ataul Kabir Ranju, deputy director of a private organisation that operated the vessel, said ship was on its way to Khulna.
“It sunk after hitting a buoy at Bhasantek around 2pm.”
Another lighter vessel, shipping maize, sunk there on Apr 3 after being hit by another ship.
