9,020 new taxpayers file returns under tax amnesty scheme

LAHORE: Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid has said that 9,020 taxpayers filed their returns under the Voluntary Tax Compliance Scheme (VTCS), depositing Rs 850 million taxes.

Speaking in the Senate on behalf of the finance minister, he said at the outset, it was stated that neither any tax amnesty bill was introduced nor passed by the National Assembly.

However, he added that the VTCS was announced by the government and presented in the form of a bill before the National Assembly.

He said Rs 61 million was spent on advertising and publicity of the scheme. Replying to another question, he added the government received an amount of $13.7 billion in respect of Coalition Support Fund (CSF) during the period from September, 2001 to January, 2016.

Replying to another question, the Ministry of Finance said that the economy sustained $56.88 billion direct and indirect losses due to terrorist acts in the country during the last five years.
