MULTAN: Officials of the Excise and Taxation Department in the city have impounded 84 vehicles in two days during the general holdup.

The Multan Excise Vehicle Branch claimed to have impounded 84 vehicles during a crackdown in various parts of the city. Motor Vehicle Branch In-charge Azhar Khurshid Khan told Customs Today that four different excise teams were participating in the operation against owners of vehicles who not paid token tax, especially those having unregistered vehicles in the city.

The crackdown will assist the department in collection of revenue and also force the public to pay token tax of vehicles as early as possible. The Motor Vehicle Registration Branch has already collected Rs 390 million in this regard.

The Motor Vehicle Branch was assigned a target of Rs 606 million for the fiscal year 2014-15, so the department had no option but to gear up the collection of taxes in order to achieve the annual target of tax recovery.
