ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to take the help of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in taking action against corrupt officers up to the rank of BS-16.

According to sources, FIA Assistant Director Asif has issued notices to 90 employees of Regional Tax Office (RTO) and Model of Customs Collectorate, Lahore, for their alleged involvement in corruption, and asked them to cooperate in the investigation process by appearing before the FIA at its Lahore office.

The Federal Revenue Alliance Employees Union has termed this action a ‘revenge activity’ against the union employees. The members said that if such activities continued, they would call for a strike and lockdown of offices.

They said that the FIA had been issuing notices on the directives of the FBR, adding that they would move the courts to seek justice.

Union spokesperson Rashid Shah and Lahore President Naeem Abbas Shah while talking to Customs Today said that they had no objection against crackdown on corrupt officials, but this practice should be transparent.

They further said that 1,043 employees were terminated through an executive order in Gen Musharraf’s regime, who were all reinstated by courts, but these practices cast negative effects on employees, besides marring the performance of the department.
