Display
The new Lumia 640 XL has a 5.7-inch HD (720p) screen that is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. At 259ppi, it is not the most pixel-rich phablet in the market, but we can’t really ask for more considering the price tag of 189 Euros (approx Rs 13,500). The IPS panel reproduces bright, vibrant colours that mask the pixilation to a large extent. The viewing angles are decent and contrast level is a little too much. In fact, the colours show a little oversaturation, but not enough to spoil the user experience.
Design Made of polycarbonate plastic, the smartphone has curved edges; however, the part where the back panel meets the sides is straight. The phablet is not too big, so you can comfortably hold it and operate with one hand. The problem is that without any metal or glass embellishments, it looks a little plain and lacks much of design flair.
Features
Part of the low-cost Lumia 6xx series, this phablet has come as a major upgrade over its siblings due to 1GB RAM, which makes it compatible with a lot more apps and games than models like Lumia 630 and 635.
During the little time users spent with Lumia 640 XL, it seemed responsive and fairly fast, though not the quickest player in the game. The preloaded apps include the usual suspects they see on Lumia phones, including the camera apps and Cortana.
At 3,000mAh, this phablet has one of the biggest batteries in its price range.
Camera
A 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera make it one of the best devices in this price range when it comes to imaging. The photos users took using the rear camera in the demo area turned out well, delivering sufficient details and low level of noise in standard mode. Similarly, the selfie camera takes pretty good pictures, but they did click some overexposed photos in the standard mode.
