Appraisement-West, Preventive await inquiry report to take action in Vehicles Amnesty Scheme scam

KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Appraisement (West) and MCC-Preventive have stopped further legal proceedings in Vehicles Amnesty Scheme (VAS) case for indefinite time, it is learnt here.

Sources informed Customs Today that the authorities concerned of both the collectorates have agreed upon to stop its further legal proceedings until the completion of investigation by two member committee comprising of Customs officers into the said case.

“MCCs are waiting for the findings/outcome of the committee which is being conducted inquiry into the VAS”, sources added.

It is pertinent to mention here that the two-member Committee comprising of senior officers Irfan Javed and Saeed Akram is investigating the matter as per the directives of FBR high ups.

It may be mentioned here that the Additional Collector Irfan Javed has already informed Customs Today that he has been started investigation with the Customs officials into the matter and will finalize its report by the end of the month i.e. March.

It may also be mentioned here that the MCC-Appraisement (West) has served show-cause notices to 37clearing agents for their alleged involvement in clearance of vehicles out of its age limit which violated SRO144 (I)/2013.

In addition, the MCC-Preventive authorities have served 12 show-cause notices to the shipping agents in this regard, but did not take any legal action further.
