Rs400m out of Rs1b security plan approved: Non-stop modern train to run between Rawalpindi, Karachi

LAHORE: Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique, after inaugurating 10 power vans at Lahore station, has said that Pakistan Railways will operate a non-stop modern train between Rawalpindi and Karachi in the first week of May.

Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja also announced to recruit 20 inspectors, 49 assistant sub-inspectors and 100 constables in Pakistan Railways Police (PRP). The minister said the recruitment will be made through public service commission on 100 per cent merit. He said that suggestion had been sent to the federal government for increase in PRP salaries.

The minister vowed to bring improvement in the security of the railways infrastructure. A project of Rs1 billion to enhance railways’ security had been sent to the government for approval and Rs400 million had been approved so far. He said the railways passengers will enjoy better facilities of air-condition, light, fans and water after induction of 10 new power vans in various trains.

The minister regretted the Yohanaabad incident was another attempt of terrorists to destabilise the country.
