KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Crime Cell has almost finalised its investigation into Vehicles Amnesty Scheme (VAS) scam.
Reliable sources informed Customs Today that investigation into the VAS scam has entered its final phase and will be completed by the end of this month.
Sources further disclosed that the FIA has included customs officials, clearing agents and shipping agents into the investigation and will send the report to the FIA Sindh director general in coming days.
Sources made it clear that evidence of involvement of customs officials into the scam had been found, and the authorities concerned were conducting the investigation keeping all aspects in their mind.
When contacted, FIA Crime Cell Assistant Director Mukhtiar Ahmed Chana confirmed that the FIA Crime Cell has almost completed its investigation into the scam.
Replying to a query, he said that the involvement of customs officials in the scam has been established and a letter in this regard has been forwarded to the Sindh DG in order to include the customs officials in the investigation.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Pakistan Customs authorities through establishing a committee have also been investigating the scandal.
A two-member committee comprising customs officers of Grade-19 is investigation the scam and also called upon the customs officials who were deployed in the Car Group at that time for recording their statements.
According to sources, the committee of customs officers will also finalise its findings by the end of this month.
