755MW nuclear power to reach 3,535MW by 2021; 40,000MW by 2050 target: PAEC

Karachi: Under the Nuclear Power Vision, the overall of production of electricity will be increased to 40,000MW by 2050 by setting up many nuclear power plants across the country, said Dr Ansar Pervaiz, the chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC).

During his visit to the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), he was making a presentation on “The Nuclear Power Plants and The K-2/K-3 Project”.

Karachi Nuclear Power Plant, Chashma Nuclear Power Unit-1 and Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-2 have been producing a total of 755MW of nuclear power which will be raised to 3,535MW by 2021 on completion of under construction C-3, C-4, K-2 and K-3 projects, PAEC chairman said.

He said, “After 2021, PAEC will be focusing on commencing construction work on at least one nuclear power plant project every year in order to achieve the desired targets.”
