As per the details, the ASO team stopped a truck bearing registration number TKJ-450 at a checkpoint established near Sumandari Road, Faisalabad, and recovered Iranian ceramic tiles weighing 43,910kg, which were allegedly being smuggled from Quetta to Faisalabad.

On asking about the import documents, the truck driver provided a cargo invoice issued by M/s Sitara Al-Usman Goods Forwarding Agency and copy of goods declaration (GD) No 9230, which were found fake/mis-declared after examination of the consignment, as the weight of tiles was not according to the weight mentioned in the GD documents.

Taking legal action, customs officials seized the smuggled tiles and impounded the truck under Section 168 and 157(2) of the Customs Act, 1969, for violation of Section 16 and 18 of the Customs Act, 1969, read with Section 3(1) 3 of Import & Export (Control) Act, 1950.

Meanwhile, the customs authorities have served a notice on the consignee under Section 171 of the Customs Act, 1969, through the truck driver, while further investigation is underway.
