ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Customs Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation has confiscated worth Rs 250 million smuggled items including cloth, cigarettes, vehicles, electronics, tyres and tuber, diesel, motor oil, cooking oil etc in February 2015.
Under the supervision of Director General I&I Lutfullah Virk, intelligence department not only took effective measure to curb the smuggling and also took disciplinary actions against the corrupt officials.
Intelligence impounded 23 vehicles under Section 157 and 55 vehicles under Section 16 (NDP) in February. while 322,974 yard cloth worth Rs 22 million, 625 kg tea worth Rs 0.15 million, 182 pieces of tyres and tubes worth Rs 0.95 million, 441,495 litres diesel worth Rs 2.8 million, 26850 foreign originated cigreates worth Rs 1.9 million and electronics worth Rs 15.7 million were seized by customs intelligence in February 2015.
As per detail, custom intelligence also seized 867 kg worth millions charas in February, while 109 cases were registered and 10 accused were arrested in same period.
As a whole, I&I seized items worth Rs 2.38 billion during first eight months of current fiscal year 2014-15, besides, 11218 kg charas and 38525 kg poppy seeds worth millions of rupees during eight month. In eight months, I&I registered 769 cases on smuggling charges and arrested 155 accused, while 20 were punished by courts.
