Customs Intelligence starts work on compiling import data of automobile spare parts

KARACHI: The Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR Karachi Region while following the directives of Director Customs I&I Asif Marghoob Siddiqui has started work on import data of automobile auto parts.

Sources informed Customs Today that the Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation is compiling the list of suspicious elements, involved in importing the auto parts/spare parts of automobile on self-assessment and other unfair means.

Sources further informed that scrutiny of the import data related to the automobile spares parts has entered into the final stage and soon the list would be forwarded to the Director Customs Intelligence.

They disclosed that the authorities concerned of Directorate Customs Intelligence have received secret information that an organized cartel of smugglers was behind the import of automobile parts through unfair means and involved in mis-declaration of PCT values and quantity, inflicting colossal loss on the national exchequer.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Research and Development (R&D) Section of MCC-Appraisement (East), few months ago detected a nexus of some alleged importers/smugglers involved in import of automobile spare parts through unfair means and affecting national exchequer worth million of rupees.

Subsequently, the authorities concerned of R&D Section, MCC-Appraisement (East) constituted a contravention report against importer i.e. M/s Paramount Corporation Limited and forwarded the case to the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-II for further legal proceedings.

In due course, the Director General (DG) Customs Intelligence Lutfullah Virk asked the Director Customs Intelligence-Karachi Region to start work on and collect all relevant import data pertaining to automobile spare parts.

The sources further claimed that the authorities concerned of Directorate Customs Intelligence-Karachi Region in upcoming days will tighten its grip around unscrupulous elements, involved in smuggling and import of auto mobile spare parts by using unfair means.
