Government committed to overcoming energy crisis: power secretary

Younus Dagha says industrialists and people should pay taxes honestly to put economy on the right track

ISLAMABAD: Water and Power Secretary Younus Dagha said the government was focused on overcoming the energy crisis from the very start.

Talking to Radio Pakistan, he said that the government initiated many power projects that are underway and the country will have enough electricity when these projects will be completed.

“The government efforts are underway to overcome the energy crisis. Many power production projects have been initiated that will be completed in the next 3-4 years. There are 21 projects in Pak-China Economic Corridor, including power projects,” he added.

He said that the prime minister visited many countries and invited foreign investors to invest in different sectors in Pakistan. Industrialists and people should pay taxes honestly to put economy on the right track.

He further added that 12th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Energy held in Islamabad was of vital importance. The prime minister was updated on the planned 1,100km North-South Gas pipeline, which is expected to be completed in the first half of 2017.

He said that there is a need for conservation measures, including early closure of shops, marriage halls and restaurants, so that electricity could be saved. “LNG will be helpful in production of cheap electricity.”
