LAHORE: Leather exports from the country during first seven months of current fiscal year have increased by 11.61 per cent reaching up to $ 378.665 million as compared to the exports of $ 339.265 million in corresponding period of last fiscal year.
From July-January, 2013-14, leather garments exports from country registered growth of 10.76 per cent. About 705,000 dozen of leather garments worth $ 256.093 million were exported against 571,000 dozen valuing $ 231.206 million exported during same period of last fiscal year.
According to official data, leather gloves exports also registered increase of 15.11 per cent as about 4,136,000 dozen of the product were exported and earned $ 115.559 million during the period. The gloves exports was recorded at 3,230 thousand dozen valuing $ 100.293 million in first seven months of fiscal year 2012-13, the data revealed.
However, during the period under review other leather exports witnessed negative growth of 8.28 per cent and reached at $ 7.123 million which was recorded at $ 7.766 million in the same period of last fiscal year, it added.
During the period from July-January, 2013-14, footwear exports increased by 3.05 per cent as about 7,454,000 pairs worth $ 7.123 million were exported which stood at 7,229,000 pairs in same period of last fiscal year.
During the period, leather footwear exports swelled by 8.05 per cent. About 3,912,000 pairs of leather footwear worth $ 52.791 million were exported as compared to the exports of 3,406,000 pairs valuing $ 48.85 million exported in same period last fiscal year.
While canvas footwear exports shrunk by 84.83 per cent. The country managed to export about 11,000 pairs of canvas footwear as compared to 113,000 pairs exported during first seven months of last fiscal year.
