Earth day celebration in Washington supported by Global Citizen

HARROW: A rally and concert held this Saturday to celebrate Earth Day was a huge hit as thousand gathered at the National Mall to watch performances by Mary J. Blige, Usher and No Doubt among others. The celebration sought to promote global poverty awareness and climate change awareness.
Aside from big performances by celebrities and starts, there were dignitaries present as well. Among them were United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde and a handful of members of Congress.
According to Earth Day Network President Kathleen Rogers, climate change and poverty are intertwined hence in order to eliminate poverty, we need to solve climate change first. At the national Earth Day celeb, both supporters of poverty and climate change were present. Earth Day will be officially observe thus April 22.The Earth day celebration in Washington was supported by Global Citizen.
“Whether it’s the big migrations we expect to see or soil depletion or emptying the oceans, loss of species, loss of timberland — all these things are creating poverty at the same time that they are also creating climate change issues,” Rogers said.
