EALING: Hawaii governor David Ige said that the construction of the Thirty Meters Telescope at the summit of Mount Kea will have to remain on hold as authorities still talk about the legalities involved and petitions of Native Hawaiians in the area.
The construction of the giant telescope is being funded by a nonprofit organization. The location was selected because according to scientists, it is strategic and will give scientists a better view of the galaxy. Apparently, the area where the TMT is being constructed is considered as a sacred place by the natives.
Governor Ige said there is no date yet as to when construction will resume. The governor said, that additional announcements about the construction schedule would be announced soon.
On the other hand, scientists who are pushing the construction of the giant telescope at the said location explained that Mauna Kea’s summit above cloud cover presents some of the world’s ideal circumstances for viewing the skies.
