Closing: KSE plummets 34pts, down 0.10% amid ‘volatile’ Karachi

KARACHI: The Karachi Stock Exchange benchmark 100-index lost 33.91 points or 0.10 percent to reach 33456.74 points and volume of 226,473,540 shares on Thursday as tension grew in Karachi amid by-election of NA-246 constituency.

Twelve candidates including Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM)’s Kanwar Naveed Jameel, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s  Imran Ismail and Jamaat-i-Islami’s Rashid Naseem were in the run for NA-246.

By-election in the constituency was being held after the seat was vacated by Nabil Gabol when he resigned from the MQM.

Investors were alarmed after Monday’s correction and morning news of the tax authority stepping up to keep a check on evaders by gathering market trade data, however multi-billion projects deal between Pakistan and China helps build confidence on Wednesday which was deterred by by-electuion of NA-246 in Karachi.

In midday trading, the benchmark 100-index Thursday maintained the positive trading note as 100-index up by 0.51 per cent, gaining 171.77 points.

Earlier, the Karachi Stock Exchange added another 112.76 points in early trading and reached 33603.41 level with total volume of 29,825,970 shares.

The High and Low of today trading were 33712.45 and 33399.02 respectively with the total volume traded in the market of 226,473,540.
